How easy or hard is it to set up SSL with a webhost?

If you sign up with a webhost and also buy an SSL package from them is it just a case of changing your http to https in your source code, i would imagine there would be options availble to configure the SSL with the webhost but i can't see why it would be a straight forward chgaing http to https?
