Is dark energy accelerating the expansion of the universe at an ever diminishing rate?

As dark energy expands space, it must become ever more dispersed and the acceleration force gradually diminished; unless of course it doesn't obey the second law of thermo dynamics, which states that in a closed system, the entropy of the system does not decrease. The universe is believed finite, and therefore a closed system starting as it did with the big bang. Therefore, would it not follow that the acceleration of the universe is reducing, from a high level of acceleration to a lower level of acceleration? Your comments will be appreciated.
